Energy
and low carbon transitions are impacting processes of economic restructuring, in
turn producing new economic geographies. In this webinar we focus on places that
have experienced waves of economic restructuring for the last 50 years as heavy
industry has transformed, often leaving old industrial places with challenging
legacies of unemployment, disinvestment and disenchantment. New energy economies
layer onto these challenges, producing potential for economic change,
development, growth or further loss. In these talks we will outline
research on different industrial towns across Europe that have for different
reasons found themselves at the frontier of new energy economies: we examine how
these changes are unfolding, and what they mean for future economic
geographies.
